AFCP's overall aim is to promote education and research in agriculture and food production by supporting charities that are working in this discipline, to make better use of their funds. The Morley Agricultural Foundation (TMAF), based near Wymondham, already provides grants for research into arable crops but launched its first fully-funded PhD studentship in 2020, in tandem with NIAB and the University of Cambridge; aiming to give TMAF greater impact in its funding objectives, by being able to choose PhD projects rather than funding "ad-hoc" applications - although those would also still be supported.
