Our people

Niab brings together more than 300 people with expertise spanning plant science, crop production, independent testing, research, technical services and business support. Our people work across Cambridge, East Malling and a network of research, trial and specialist sites around the UK. Together, we connect plant science, evidence and practical experience to support agriculture and horticulture.

STAFF LIST

• In Crop Improvement our teams develop the crops and technologies needed for the future of agriculture and horticulture. Our expertise spans genetics, genomics, plant breeding and pre-breeding, biotechnology, tissue culture, data science and emerging technologies.
• The Independent Validation and Certification teams provide independent evidence and assurance for agriculture and horticulture. This includes variety evaluation, DUS testing, seed certification, trials, analytical services, disease identification and surveillance. Our work supports farmers, growers, breeders, industry and government.
• In Cropping Systems they connect science and evidence with the practical realities of farming and growing. Our expertise includes agronomy, crop protection, nutrition, soils and substrates, production systems and precision agronomy, alongside training, consultancy, membership and knowledge exchange.
• And Business Services provide the expertise, systems and infrastructure that enable Niab to operate effectively. They work across areas including finance, people and culture, IT, communications, facilities, commercial development, events and operational support.

Niab has a Board of Directors, who are the charity's trustees and administer the company. The National Institute of Agricultural Botany Trust is administered by a Board of Trustees.
