Dr Robert Jackson

Dr Robert Jackson has spent over a decade at Niab building remote sensing and AI-driven tools to support applied crop research across cereals and horticulture. His extensive scientific background spans crop phenotyping, machine learning, and data science, with a proven track record of translating complex datasets into commercial services and open-source tools.

Previously, Robert was Niab's Deputy Programme Leader for Crop Phenotyping and Data Sciences, where he managed an interdisciplinary team and secured or contributed to over £7m in competitive funding from BBSRC, Innovate UK, Defra, and industry partners.

In his new role, Robert will drive research into technologies delivering real-world impact within five years. He aims to modernise how Niab handles and utilises the data it produces. By connecting Niab's Independent Validation and Certification service group's diverse scientific disciplines, he will ensure Niab’s accredited, independent science remains firmly underpinned by the most advanced, data-driven methods.
