Postdoctoral researcher
James Bedford

James is a postdoctoral researcher in quantitative genetics in the Plant Genetics group at Niab. His current research focuses on harnessing the genetic diversity of landrace, wild and underutilised crops for yield improvement and climate resilience. He is also involved in the development of genomic tools and resources for statistical genetics in a wide variety of key plant species.

Prior to his role at Niab, James completed his PhD at the University of Southampton, where his research explored the genomics of local adaptation in wild rice, with implications for the development of stress tolerant crop varieties. At Niab, he applies this expertise in evolutionary genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics to drive innovation in agricultural crop research.
