Technical Manager for Seed Certification - Tim Henshaw

Tim Henshaw

My role at Niab

I work in Niab’s Crop Characterisation team, primarily managing seed certification. This requires communication with all aspects of the seed trade and APHA giving technical advice and application of the seed marketing regulations. The role also covers trial and rotation planning as well as plot agronomy. I am a fully trained seed crop inspector and deliver training for crop inspectors across all species groups, both as a lecturer and co-ordinating exams and course plots. I am also chair of the Herbage Seed Technical Working Group.

My previous experience

I have more than 30 years’ experience in the agricultural industry, having worked on farms since before leaving school, gaining experience and working my way up to management level. For several years I worked as a technician at Cambridge vet school, working within the farm animal department teaching students’ aspects of cattle lameness and lambing protocols. The skills I learnt there are now invaluable for the teaching requirements in my current role. I joined Niab in 2018 as a technician in the crop characterisation team and becoming a technical manager a year later.
