Hilary Papworth

Hilary Papworth brings over thirty years of experience at Niab, having built her career around DUS testing and Plant Breeders’ Rights.

Progressing from technical specialist to Senior Technical Manager, she has proven expertise in trial design, quality management, and contract delivery. Hilary is involved with contract management for Niab's APHA service contract, expanded our commercial glasshouse trials post-EU exit, and has been part of Niab’s UK Quality Audit Unit.

Hilary currently chairs the UPOV Technical Working Party for Ornamental Plants and Forest Trees. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Plant Biotechnology from Wye College, University of London. Working with plants has been a lifelong passion, and after more than three decades, it remains the thread that runs through everything she does.

As Head of Operations for the Independent Validation and Certification group, Hilary will focus on protecting and developing our vital assurance infrastructure, whilst managing critical government relationships, and ensuring the group delivers to the highest standards.
