Come and join us for our first ever Diverse Weeds Open Day, where we will be demonstrating the work into sustainable management of broad-leaved weeds that NIAB has undertaken.

We will demonstrate the results that changing rotation or cultivation can have on the density and species diversity of broad-leaved weeds.

  • Alternative control techniques; It is important to look to the future of weed management so there is an opportunity to discover how the use of under-sown leys, and innovative uses of herbicide may play a part in the control of broad-leaved weeds.
  • Timing of SU herbicides; You will have the opportunity to see the importance of application timing can have on the efficacy of these herbicides.
  • Weed control in maize; Broad-leaved weeds can be major issues in spring sown crops such as maize. A range of control strategies will be shown, including inter-row hoeing and banded herbicide applications.
  • Expert Panel; John Cussans (Weed Management Specialist, NIAB) and Dilwyn Harris (Herbicide Technical Manager, ROTAM) will give you a tour of the site, and be available to discuss your weed management strategies.
