Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Assistant in NIAB’s crop transformation team, based in Cambridge.  NIAB is an independent plant science research organisation with focus on the development and characterisation of new varieties of crops.  The NIAB Crop Transformation group have a highly efficient platform for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of a number of crop species including cereals such as wheat, barley and rice, oilseed rape and potato, and the development of new tools and protocols. This platform provides transformation capacity for both research and commercial projects and actively develops and implements new methods and technologies such as gene editing.

We are seeking to recruit a Tissue Culture Laboratory Assistant to provide support to the tissue culture team. This will involve preparation of media and glassware, autoclaving and some routine tissue culture. Routine plant care and seed harvesting/processing activities will also be undertaken.

A conscientious, hardworking individual with a good standard of education is required. Experience of media preparation, plant tissue culture and class 1 containment laboratories is desirable although full training will be given. Candidates should also have good organisation and communication skills plus an eye for detail. A proven ability to work independently and as part of a team are both essential, as are good communication and interpersonal skills.
