NIAB is seeking a senior scientist in the area of plant pathology or entomology in arable crops operating from its Cambridge site. We are an international centre of excellence in strategic and applied crop research, focusing on genetics, crop cultivar evaluation and agronomy.
The purpose of this role is to provide outstanding leadership to an established and growing team, bringing expertise in a relevant discipline that underpins NIAB’s strategic ambitions to be the UK’s finest translational crop research organisation.
You should have a strong track record of high-quality research in crop pests, pathogens or other aspects of disease control along with a minimum of 7 years postdoctoral experience. Established networks in the UK and internationally, specifically in the area of pathology or entomology are essential along with management of scientific research staff and projects, a strong publication record commensurate with the level of this position and a track record in gaining research funding.
You will be responsible for the management of research leaders and also strategic research programme development, planning and monitoring, as well as for overall research quality and first-class delivery for government and commercial customers alike.
As well as providing outstanding scientific leadership and responsibility for the efficient and effective management of their staff and other resources, this role is a key member of the NIAB Crop Research senior management team. You are expected to be a highly visible, trusted and approachable member of the team, making linkages across the organisation in order to exploit research synergies and funding opportunities. You will also contribute to the achievement of the Institute Strategic Plan by providing effective management and leadership within the Department.
You must have a driving licence, as travel is required to remote trial sites that are inaccessible to public transport.
Starting salary in the range £47,612 up to £75,000 pa, depending on skills and experience.
