Seasonal Laboratory Analysts - July - September (flexible)Apply
Closing date: 24 Jun 2021
Reference number: Seasonal Laboratory Analysts
NIAB is looking to recruit Seasonal Laboratory Analysts, to work in a busy grain quality and pathogen testing laboratory.
There are roles available in two teams that work closely together – Grain Quality/Biochemistry and Seed Pathology. The Grain Quality/Biochemistry role will be to assist the laboratory in delivering grain and produce quality data from national field trials across a wide range of crop species. This will involve sample administration, preparation and testing using a wide range of protocols and analytical techniques such as oil content by NMR spectroscopy and protein content by NIR spectroscopy. The Seed Pathology role will include sample administration, media preparation and the setting up of various microbiological tests - as such knowledge and experience of aseptic technique will be advantageous.
Applicants will need to demonstrate an interest in agriculture/plant sciences and be willing to learn, with full training provided throughout the season. A good eye for detail is also essential, along with the ability to follow strict protocols. Applicants will also need to demonstrate good communication skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to work as part of a team. The work can be physically demanding at times and can involve exposure to heat, dust, loud noise and vibrating equipment but H&S training, PPE and regular staff rotations are carefully managed to mitigate these factors.
The roles are based in our Analytical Services building – ‘Barn 2’ at NIAB, Villa Road, Impington, Cambridge. CB24 9NZ.
Standard working hours are 8am to 4pm Monday – Friday, however if workplace restrictions and safety measures relating to Coronavirus are still in effect, the shift patterns may change to include early/late shifts and weekend work. Successful candidates will be regularly consulted should this be necessary and we will try our best to accommodate individual needs.
Contract lengths can be negotiable depending on availability.
Salary range £16,085 - £17,143 per annum
