NIAB is a leading UK centre for plant science, crop evaluation and agronomy, with its headquarters in Cambridge. ‘Crops and Agronomy’ champions the role of independent agronomic research, generating impartial information that is widely utilised by the UK agricultural community. It brings together a network of field-based variety evaluation and crop husbandry research, and expertise in interpretation and dissemination. In addition to projects funded by charitable, levy, government and industry sources, the Crops and Agronomy team undertakes commercial contract research, including laboratory studies, glasshouse and field trials.

We are continually seeking new talent to enhance our research expertise and technical services, and are currently looking to fill a key role within the team. This permanent role is pivotal between the internal or external customer and the trials teams to ensure that information flow and product/seed delivery are timely to enable successful completion of field work. A great next step from field trials or science profession, the role will give the opportunity to learn the intricacies of protocol creation, trial delivery and data handling.

Applicants need a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and a full driving licence. A sound knowledge of crop production is preferred along with experience of field trials and practical knowledge of agricultural systems and inputs, particularly agrochemicals and varieties. You will be competent in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel. BASIS/FACTS qualification is desirable but not essential along with some experience of delivering events/training or presentation skills. In addition, you will be well organised, adaptable, flexible, innovative, able to deliver under pressure and enjoy working as part of a team and independently, with good communications skills and an eye for detail.

Starting salary will depend on skills, experience and qualifications, but is likely to be within the range £21,618 to £28,199 pa,.
