Job details

This role in the Newton Abbot Trials Delivery Team will focus on delivery of NIAB field trials across a range of crop species including combinable crops, maize, forage grass and novel crops. Some of the work carried out by the team involves growing specialist trials for disease testing and pathology, in addition to variety testing and agrochemical efficacy testing.

Main duties include seed preparation, drilling, monitoring, spraying, harvest, processing and storage of material for future use. You will also be involved in assessing trials during the season and recording information on electronic dataloggers so attention to detail is essential. The majority of the work will be carried out as part of a team based at Newton Abbot, but will also involve some off-site work assisting with trials operations at other NIABTAG centres.

You must be educated to A levels or NVQ equivalent and preferably hold qualifications in an agricultural or science subject. A driving licence or access to independent means of transport is essential, as is competence with Microsoft Office. It is also desirable to have tractor driving, machinery maintenance and spraying experience (PA1 and PA2 certificates) and a working knowledge of the agricultural industry. We are seeking a team player who is prepared to work unsociable hours at peak times.

Starting salary is in the range of £18532 to £20591 pa plus overtime, dependent on skills, experience and qualifications.
