Job details

Based at NIAB, Cambridge, UK, we are looking to recruit a talented post-doctoral geneticist to work on a BBSRC-funded project investigating the wheat pan-genome. The work will include:

  • Analysis of Genotyping By Sequencing data on a wheat multi-parent “MAGIC” population
  • Genetic mapping and haplotype analysis in the MAGIC population, and bioinformatics collaboration with project partners involved in the assembly of multiple wheat genomes
  • Genetic analysis of quantitative traits in the MAGIC population, to understand the role of structural variation in determining variation in key traits in wheat
  • Characterisation of the wheat pan-genome with a focus on the wheat recombination landscape and underlying causes of segregation distortion

The successful candidate will work closely with the two other project partners in the UK as well as participating in international wheat genomics collaborations.

The successful applicant should have a PhD in quantitative genetics, plant genetics, or a related subject area, and be experienced in genetic data analysis, particularly genetic mapping, and proficient in using R. Basic bioinformatics experience and familiarity with working in a UNIX/Linux environment are also required. In addition, experience in analysis of multi-parent populations, analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing data and knowledge of crop molecular genetics and genomics is desirable, together with a scientific publication and presentation record. A proven ability to work independently and as part of a team are both essential, as are good communication skills. The post will require travel within the UK and internationally.

Starting salary is in the range of £30,354 to £33,726, depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
