I am responsible for the vegetable trials programme at NIAB. The bulk of the work is variety evaluation in either publicly or privately funded trials. Public trials include a major DEFRA contract for testing a range of vegetable crop varieties in organic situations and onions from both seed and sets funded by HDC and seed companies.

Confidential trials cover a wide range of outdoor vegetable crops grown for growers, packers, breeders or chemical companies to the customers specifications.

In addition, we have carried out many other agronomy experiments including evaluation of composts and fertilizers as well as testing a large number of techniques and varieties for the gardening market.
