Image Analysis

contact: David smith

Image analysis involves analysing a digitised image by software. The digitisation process can be done with any digital imaging hardware - video camera & frame grabber, digital camera or flatbed scanner for example. The analysis software determines features of the digital image by examining the constituent pixels. For example, the extent of a dark leaf on a white background can be determined by choosing a darkness threshold at which a pixel is considered "leaf" so that pixels at least that dark are leaf and all others background. Knowing the physical size represented by each pixel then allows size measurements to be made using simple two dimensional geometry
