Research Interests:
I am currently working on two research projects which aim to improve the efficiency of DUS testing in Roses and Oil Seed Rape. Both projects require the establishment of a database of reference varieties based on a microsatellite molecular profile. From each database reference varieties whose DNA profile most closely matches that of the candidate variety can be picked out and grown along side the candidate variety during DUS testing.

I also carry out protein electrophoresis tests to determine variety and/or purity in wheat and barley samples, and a potato variety identification test. These are commercial tests offered by NIAB and more details regarding price and sample size can be found in this year’s NIAB catalogue.
