FSA - Traceability of Origin and Authenticity of Olive Oil by Combined Genomic and Metabolic Approaches (Q01091)

Description
The main objective of this project is to apply molecular technologies to the traceability of origin and authenticity of olive oil produced and sold within the European Union and Australia. This project forms part of a larger scale study in collaboration with 13 partners from the EU (OLIV-TRACK, QLRT-2001-02386) and it extends the work carried out in OLIV-TRACK by analysing a set of varieties deriving from ‘emerging markets’ such as Australia.

Objectives
• To extend the screening with SSR, SNP and SCAR markers to olive varieties originating from Australia in order to evaluate possible cases of homonymy and synonymy.
• To explore the role of pollinator genotypes to allele composition of oils by comparing the reference DNA profiles obtained from leaf profiles of DNAs extracted from flesh and stones of the olive fruit.
