I completed my PhD at Rothamsted Research (UK) studying the infection process of the cereal eyespot pathogens Oculimacula acuformis and O. yallundae. I continued to work at Rothamsted initially on chemosensing of plant pathogenic nematodes. I then worked on the screening of Arabidopsis thaliana mutants compromised in the signalling pathways that result in a defence response to pathogens. The aim was to identify mutants that had altered susceptibility to Fusarium culmorum and F. graminearum.
At NIAB I am involved with the National List (NL) and Recommended List (RL) varietal trials. This enables me to work with a range of cereal pathogens and also to study resistance to these pathogens.

Infection biology of fungal pathogens of plants
Plant resistance to fungal pathogens
