Gerard Bishop

Gerard has nearly 30 years’ research experience in Solanaceae research, especially studying tomato and potato plants. Past research includes his interest in understanding plant growth and development, focusing on plant steroid hormone synthesis and response. This led to the cloning and characterising tomato dwarfing genes. He has provided leadership in multidisciplinary projects such as UK’s participation in the sequencing of the tomato genome and has developed a novel application of high throughput sequencing technology.

More recently Gerard has collaborated and developed strong working relationships with industry including helping to develop imaging platforms and assessing the potential of new varieties.
