Pathogen populations and UKCPVS

Characterising and understanding pathogen populations underpins several disease resistance programmes. For example, the United Kingdom Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey (UKCPVS) provides long term information on the dynamics of virulence factors in cereal rusts and mildews. Results are used to ensure cereal varieties are challenged with appropriate pathotypes and to construct variety diversification schemes.
