Evaluation of resistance to disease is a major component of plant pathology research at NIAB. Core programmes for statutory and advisory purposes cover cereals, oilseeds, pulses, potatoes, sugar beet and herbage crops. For many pathogens, inoculated tests are used under controlled field conditions to provide guaranteed results in every season. Research focuses on improving methodology and applying marker technologies as an aid to predicting resistance.
